Focus on India

Seven leading Indian travel agents recently experienced attractions and activities around the country that will appeal to their clients.

The heads of seven Indian travel agencies were escorted around New Zealand in July by Nats Subramanian, the founder and Chief Tour Leader of TakeMe2NewZealand, a customised travel and tour business.

The agents spent almost two weeks travelling through the north and south islands, visiting a variety of attractions and experiencing activities that will appeal to the growing Indian visitor market, including Kelly Tarltons, Te Puia, Hobbiton Movie Set & Tours, Kaikoura Whale Watching, Skyline Queenstown and the Tranz Alpine Scenic Train. They travelled to Milford on a Real Journeys glass-top coach before enjoying a scenic cruise.

India is currently New Zealand’s 11th largest visitor market. Arrivals grew by 15% in the year ending May 2017 to almost 55,000 visitors and Tourism New Zealand expects that double digit growth to continue in 2018.

The Indian market’s preference to travel in New Zealand's autumn and spring shoulder seasons makes it an important market to help address seasonality.

Mr Subramania says food was an important part of the famil experience.

“While Indian food were organised, the group also enjoyed local fare, including fish n chips at Waiouru, crayfish at Kaikoura, pizza in Wanaka. We topped the trip off with hokey pokey ice cream!

“Overall it was a mission well accomplished. Almost every one of our service partner had someone from sales & marketing to host the group.

“They gone back home to India with a lot of great memories and are now committed to promoting New Zealand as the next holiday destination to their clients.”
